About Teach For America

Clambake & Cocktails is an annual beach party benefiting Teach For America in New York City. Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and who become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity.

Here in New York City, nearly 1,000 of the nation’s future leaders will teach this fall through Teach For America in over 200 public schools across the Bronx, Washington Heights, Harlem, the Lower East Side and Brooklyn. Throughout their two-year commitment, they work tirelessly to ensure their students attain academic success so that they have the same prospects as students from more affluent areas.

At the same time, 1,500 Teach For America alumni in New York City are applying the extraordinary insight they gained through their classroom experience to effect the broader changes needed to make educational equity a reality in our city. In addition to serving in growing numbers as school principals, they are leading some of our city’s and the nation’s most promising education reform efforts. Still other alumni are tackling issues that impact schools from other sectors, such as business, law, media, medicine and public policy.

Teach For America is in the midst of a major expansion effort across New York City and across the nation. Please join Teach For America Junior Sponsors, New York magazine and Gen Art at Clambake & Cocktails to increase awareness and generate support for this invaluable pursuit.

Proceeds from this event will enable us to sponsor five incoming New York City corps members.
