Trompe L’Oeil

Duchamp turns in on himself, as two artists create their own “ready-made” art.

  1. 1. Zilvinas Kempinas

At Spencer Brownstone through June 9

What appears to be a nine-foot screen of black-and-white pixellated static is actually hundreds of strands of unspooled videotape, stretched in front of bright lights and fans.

  2. 2. Kaz Oshiro

At Yvon Lambert through June 30

Oshiro stretches meticulously painted canvases over 3-D wooden frames, producing realistic replicas of professional amplifiers and household cabinetry. Knobs and dials are made out of Bondo, the polyester-resin goop that auto-body shops use to smooth out dents.
