We're From the Fifties

Liberal fifties rockers the Extra-Ordinaries were obliterated when the plane containing Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper crashed on them. But apparently God is a fan (and a vociferous, needy padrone ready to rain jihad against boy bands), so they've been resurrected. Coincidentally, disaster really did befall them the night we attended. (Half of the comic duo, Al Del Bene, had been rushed to the hospital with a testicle infection, taking his wife, who's also a backup singer; the programs; and the key to their equipment locker.) One wishes Brett Duggan, an awful but sometimes funny singer, had mentioned this before struggling through the most painful performance I've yet witnessed. Circumstances can change only so much; unless there are more songs like the Weezeresque plea for tolerance "Eskimo Jew" and a lot fewer about hepatitis B and how Marilyn Monroe could "lick her own titties," we were still rushing for the door. -- JADA YUAN
