First Time’s the Charm

A pair of uncommonly promising young artists reach New York milestones this week.

  1. 1. Kate Aldrich

    March 13
Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, Seventh Ave. at 57th St., 212-799-1982; $35

The rising American mezzo has sung opposite Plácido Domingo in L.A. and just won the Opera Orchestra of New York’s Vidda Award. She’ll make her New York recital debut this week, then sing Carmen at City Opera in April.

  2. 2. Alexander Lonquich

    March 15 and 18
    92nd Street Y, 1395 Lexington Ave., 212-415-5500; $40

The supple and technically excellent pianist who records for ECM makes his New York debut, and sticks around for a Mozart quintet with the Tokyo String Quartet.
