Different Drummers

These concerts, featuring anything but run-of- the-mill instruments, highlight the vivid spectrum of sound outside the orchestra’s realm.

  1. 1. “Grab it! The Music of Jacob TV”

May 2 through May 4 at Whitney at Altria

Classical saxophone, anyone? The Prism and New Century quartets play the innovative Dutch composer Jacob ter Veldhuis’s chamber pieces.

  2. 2. Jordi Savall

May 9 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The early-music connoisseur plays the repertoire as it should be played, on the viola da gamba; friends join him on harpsichord and a lutelike instrument called the theorbo.

  3. 3. Festival of India

    May 5 at Town Hall

Two masters of classical tabla and santur (a hammered dulcimer) share their skills.
