The Dukes of Hazzard, America's televised fantasy about Southern boys in tight jeans and fast cars, was never taken seriously, which makes spoofing it that much harder. The Yale graduates behind this staged send-up certainly know the show's basic formula— enduring backwoods rivalries build to narrated, cliffhanger freeze-frames and gratuitous shots of Daisy's short shorts— but the creators have neither painstakingly deconstructed nor mercilessly mocked the dopey original. Luckily, two actors go for the joke. Remy Auberjonois' ridiculous impersonation of the county sheriff is a symphony of snorts, giggles and hiccups that hilariously climax à la Tourette's syndrome. Meanwhile, Frank Liotti's turn as a disastrous
stand-in for one of the lead "good old boys" comically portrays the bitterness of a queeny, second-rate actor destined to fail. That campy point of view is exactly what’s lacking elsewhere in this lackluster production.
