Flamenco is just a starting point for the wild, innovative and utterly transfixing style of M'oro Flamenco. Dancer-choreographers Jenny Bascos and Greg de Silva have added Filipino martial arts, classical Indian dancing and hip-hop moves to flamenco's drama. It's a big experiment, but a cohesive one that easily transitions from maraca clicking to yoga poses, Asian stick fights to pieces with bowler hats. Music provides a constant undercurrent, with the dancers sometimes relinquishing the stage to the deft drummers and guitar players. There's a palpable danger when Leslie Roybal puts long golden spikes on her nails to dance barefoot with Greg de Silva, or when Jeremiah Lockwood wails as if he can't find words for his sadness or when the floor shakes with stomping. "Oh, I'm exhausted," one audience member exclaimed at the conclusion while clutching her chest. We all were, honey.—Jada Yuan
