Three beautiful, well-dressed women who don't play any instruments, the Pipettes are a self-conscious throwback to the manufactured bands of the girl-group era. Their debut album, released in the U.S. this week, proves that the Brighton lasses aren't only well constructed, but sharp and tough all on their own. The disc describes a world full of pretty girls and pretty boys whose every heartbreak takes place in perfect harmony and serves as just another reason to dance.
