Getting rid of unwanted skin art is a complicated process, because every shade of ink requires a different-intensity laser. As director of the Laser and Skin Surgery Center since 1993, Geronemus works with 40 different lasers. He also oversees a research-and-development division that has created its own laser technology and conducts clinical experiments to discover the most effective laser-ink pairings. A former president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the doctor has removed tattoos from Oscar-winning actresses, politicians, and Park Avenue socialites. Even tattoo artists like Lori Leven, owner of New York Adorned, admit that he’s the most qualified to make their hard work disappear.
Best Tattoo Removal
From the 2007 Best of New York issue of New York Magazine
Our mission this year: to hunt down not just the best but the best values in the eating, shopping, drinking, and general-consuming universe of New York. It’s quite the process, this, requiring eating and shopping and drinking (all in the name of research), followed by heated but civil discussion, and heated but less-civil discussion, until a winner emerges in each category.
