There’s a fancy new Equinox in Brooklyn Heights, but this nearly brand-new family-friendly facility is more than a place to do cardio and weights. There are community-centric programs for teens and toddlers, infant swim classes in the six-lane pool, and pickup basketball games in the gigantic gym. The fitness center has cardio and strength-training machines plus 96 adult classes a week, from spinning to belly dancing. For $5 per hour extra, you can book a babysitter while you do your time on the treadmill. One drawback: At peak hours, there can be long lines for equipment, most likely because it’s the only reasonably priced enterprise in Cobble Hill. (A family membership is $100 for two adults and includes your children; individual adults are $60.)
Best Brooklyn Gym
From the 2007 Best of New York issue of New York Magazine
Our mission this year: to hunt down not just the best but the best values in the eating, shopping, drinking, and general-consuming universe of New York. It’s quite the process, this, requiring eating and shopping and drinking (all in the name of research), followed by heated but civil discussion, and heated but less-civil discussion, until a winner emerges in each category.
