Nearly 70 episodes of late-night television are taped each month in the city. And while each has its perks, only Saturday Night Live offers something truly unique: the chance to affect the show’s content. Twenty Saturdays this season, SNL is hosting a live preshow dress rehearsal, which typically runs 30 minutes longer than what eventually airs. Crowd reaction leads to cuts and tweaks. E-mail to apply for the ticket lottery, which is held in August. (You will not get to choose which episode you attend; you can apply only once, but it doesn’t hurt to ask your friends or family members to register as well.) If you come up short, you can go to Rockefeller Center and wait for standby tickets, which are available at 7 a.m. on the day of the show, though you won’t be guaranteed a seat.
