Roller Jam USA
236 Richmond Valley Rd., nr. Page Ave. 718-605-6600
With the shutdown of the Empire Roller Skating Center in Crown Heights last April—which followed the closing of the Skate Key rink in the Bronx and Roxy in Manhattan—Roller Jam USA in Staten Island is now the only roller rink in the city. Just a ten-minute walk from the Richmond Valley stop on the Staten Island Railway, this is where newbies can go for free lessons on Wednesdays. And for all the displaced roller-derby girls out there, good news: Pull your ripped fishnets out of the closet, because the Staten Island Spankers, the rink’s all-girl team, is currently holding tryouts.
