Less starchy than a Met lecture but a lot smarter than most youth-outreach attempts, MoMA and P. S. 1’s monthly PopRallys are unmissable events for the city’s budding culturati. Curated by junior staffers from both museums, most programs provide tie-ins to current exhibits (a Sigur Rós performance paired with an Olafur Eliasson installation, for instance, or Patti Smith performing songs and poetry inspired by Georges Seurat drawings). Others are stand-alone events, such as an evening of vintage silent short films followed by responses from SNL’s Fred Armisen.
