Reminiscent of Berlin’s epic, 24/7 club scene, the Blkmarket Membership party goes on, and on, and on, well past sunrise—and sometimes longer—in secret locations (film studios, storage warehouses) that are only revealed to those who RSVP. (Despite the event’s name, there’s no membership required.) Dance-music disciples eagerly pay $20 to $35 to move to a mix of deep house, dubstep, and minimal techno that intensifies when headliners hit the decks around 3 a.m. Founders Fahad Haider, Mehmet Erkaya, and Taimur Agha (who daylights as the main buyer for the Halcyon record shop in Dumbo) focus on the essentials: custom-designed lighting for each space; a clear sound system that’s loud yet never piercing; and fellow D.J.’s booked for their creative beats, not the size of their followings. The next party, a showcase for Cadenza Records, is on March 20, and as usual, the venue is a mystery.
