Sure, if you’ve got a Mac you can call Tekserve, whose house calls cost $240 for the first hour, $140 thereafter. For either a Mac or PC, you can call the smartly marketed national outfit Geek Squad, which generally snags good marks even though they put us on hold forever, then dropped the call. When it comes to service, convenience, and reasonable rates, however, no one beats OnSiteIn60, a 24/7 gang of about nine twentysomething guys all over the city who set up and service both Macs and PCs for small businesses and individuals. They’ll get to you in 60 minutes or less for a sane $75 an hour, $50 an hour or less if you can wait a day. They speak Spanish, Hebrew, Russian, and Polish. And they’re serious about the 24/7 bit. One loyal client, who runs a chain of boutique hotels, once called them at 3 a.m. just for a test—the boys were ready to go.

Competition breeds the best. If only one pizzeria existed in New York, of course, there’d be no real winning slice. Thankfully, we’ll never know what that sorry situation tastes like, since pizza—like dance parties, dog runs, and fried chicken—has to evolve upward here.
