    It’s one thing to find someone who can order any kind of unique upholstery. It’s quite another to find one who makes them from scratch, which brings us to Winter Water Factory. Owner Stefanie Lynen’s methods are steeped in history, from the hard-to-find organic canvas she uses (woven in the U.S., even) to the printing of her patterned fabrics (done not only in the U.S. but in Red Hook!). Turnaround times are surprisingly quick—order swatches and have exceptional fabric in two to three weeks. The cost is reasonable for handmade work: around $88 per yard, or $300 for a small armchair.
