Best of New York 2015

Best Interior Painter

  • Julia Mecha at Chimere Decorative Painting

Mecha, whose custom colors adorn the lobby of the Ace Hotel and Dior on 57th Street, is also known for her faux finishes (Cuban mahogany and Carrara marble, from $150 per hour). And when traditional paint doesn’t cut it, substitutions of turmeric and pink peppercorns are not unheard of (see Harlem’s Red Rooster). For such obsessive work, Mecha is speedy—recently she cut a seven-week job in half for a harried client. Her standard services (from $50 per hour) begin with an at-home consult.
