Best Emerging Design Store

  • Ray20

52 Walker St., fourth fl., 212-925-2235

Owner Cheri Caso, a 31-year-old former architect, sells the work of thirteen designers who are veritable rock stars in their home countries if not here: Istanbul’s Autoban Design, Jonas Lindvall of Sweden, and furniture by David Trubridge (the Jasper Morrison of New Zealand). On sale now is Norwegian designer Hans Brattrud’s iconic Scandia chair series, in production again after a 30-year hiatus. There’s also a rotating, design-themed art exhibit—the current one features New Yorker Tedd Nash, who uses silk thread on paper to create topographical designs inspired by subway systems the world over.
