Hus
11 Christopher St., nr. Sixth Ave. 212-620-5430
All Scandinavia, all the time. But at this airy store, that doesn’t mean a relentless onslaught of everything Marimekko; Hus is the kind of place that inevitably has something delightful and not that expensive for the home or the closet (or the last-minute birthday party). Well-known brands (Orrefors crystal) sit alongside designers you’ve probably never heard of and might not be able to pronounce. There are handsome watches from Ezteem (from $495), anti-wrinkle creams from Ole Henriksen (starting at $22), and chunky shark-tooth necklaces on a thick Run-DMC–esque chain from Cornelia ($200). You can also get Filippa K. dresses, Tiger of Sweden’s cool sportswear, J. Lindeberg sweaters for men, and Tretorn’s excellent rain boots for both genders, plus clever, whimsical kids’ toys.
