Best Pinup Dresses

  • Bettie Page

303 Bowery, nr. Houston St.; 646-478-7006

Vintage-clothing connoisseurs may bristle at the notion of reproductions, but Tatyana Khomyakova’s Bettie Page boutique offers something no consignment shop can: consistent sizing for zaftig ladies. The showroom is a temple of figure-enhancing frocks, with pink walls and side tables piled high with silky scarves and cat’s-eye shades. Shopgirls who could have stepped off a John Huston set nod affirmatively as patrons slip in and out of the type of body-conscious styles seen clinging for dear life to the curves of Joan Holloway: knee-length pencil skirts, nipped waistlines, and chest-hugging halters ranging from XXS to 4X (approximately 0 to 20). Pumps, handbags, and micro-cardigans help complete the anachronistic ensembles.
