Exclusive Comics Excerpt: ‘Mouse Guard’

Every week, the Comics Page introduces you to brand-new graphic novels by the world's best artists and writers. Manga, superheroes, indie comix — we'll cover them all as our editors select the best the exploding comics world has to offer.

In a world full of dangerous predators, how do simple mice survive? Only through the heroism of the Mouse Guard. Three of the Mouse Guard's finest — Lieam, Saxon and Kenzie — seek to uncover a traitorous plot against the Guard in the difficult chill of Fall 1152.

All week on the Comics Page, we're excerpting David Petersen's Mouse Guard: Fall 1152, the gorgeously illustrated, deceptively simple story of mice fighting to protect their home. This hardcover volume, just published by Archaia Studios Press, is the beginning of an epic that promises to rival The Lord of the Rings in scope — though somewhat smaller in height.
