Kelly, Diaz Open The Box: Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) will direct Cameron Diaz in The Box, supernatural thriller based on Richard Matheson short story. You could make a totally different kind of movie out of The Box if you cast Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake. [Variety]
Kelley Casts Mars: David E. Kelley's new show for ABC, adaptation of U.K. hit Life on Mars, will star James O'Mara, who impressed ABC in unsuccessful pilot Marlowe. Variety quotes Kelley and director Thomas Schlamme praising the guy to the high heavens, which we assume means everyone at ABC is super-annoyed that no one's ever heard of him. [Variety]
Hoff to Star in Pal Joey: Christian Hoff, who won a Tony for Jersey Boys, will star in a revival of Rodgers & Hart musical Pal Joey on Broadway in the spring. Richard Greenberg reworked the book, and Joe Mantello will direct. [Variety]
Wilson to Leave Grey Gardens: After all our talk about Christine Ebersole departing Grey Gardens, it's her fellow Tony winner Mary Louise Wilson who's leaving first, on July 29. Presumably the All That Chat diehards have already cast Raúl Esparza in the role. [Variety]
Clark Is Clytemnestra: Victoria Clark, Tony winner for The Light in the Piazza, will play Clytemnestra in Signature Theater production of Charles Mee's Iphigenia 2.0. We fully expect Mee to stick to his conceit and, if he revises the script during production, retitle it Iphigenia 2.1. [Playbill]
Gorillaz Opera to Open: Gorillaz duo of Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett have co-created opera based on Chinese Monkey folk stories. Piece, directed by Chen Shizheng, mixes animation, video games, and traditional opera, and opens in Manchester, England, before traveling to Paris and Berlin and (presumably, at some point) BAM.
