Carrey to Jail: Jim Carrey signs to star in I Love You Phillip Morris, black comedy about a con man who falls in love with a cellmate and attempts to escape from prison when the object of his affection is released. Written by the Bad Santa team of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, movie is pitched as Catch Me if You Can meets Brokeback Mountain. That’s an actual thing someone said out loud. [Variety]

Jack Black Joins Team Apatow: Jack Black will star in Judd Apatow’s Year One for Columbia alongside Michael Cera. Notorious workaholic Apatow is also producing Superbad, Walk Hard, Pineapple Express, You Don’t Mess With the Zohan, Drillbit Taylor, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. So your comedy-viewing needs should be taken care of for the next few years. [Variety]

Disney, Rudin Buy Adam: Scott Rudin and Disney preempt screenplay All About Adam by Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons. Film tells story of breakup of biblical Adam and Eve in contemporary New York City. We hope there’s some guy named Steve involved. [Variety]

Bacon Joins Frost/Nixon: Kevin Bacon joins cast of Ron Howard’s adaptation of Frost/Nixon, Peter Morgan’s current Broadway hit. Bacon will play Nixon’s chief of staff Jack Brennan. [HR]

Gone With the Wind to West End: Trevor Nunn will adapt and direct musical version of Gone With the Wind on West End in spring 2008. We’re already looking forward to climactic first-act closer, “As God As My Witness (Hungry Again!).” [Variety]

Stars Join Summer Gypsy: Patti LuPone’s performances of Gypsy for the Encores! Summer Series attracts star-studded supporting cast, including Boyd Gaines, Laura Benanti, Nancy Opel, and Tony Yazbeck. Show runs at City Center through much of July. [Playbill]

Cobain Audio on Soundtrack: Previously unheard audio journals of Kurt Cobain will appear on soundtrack to Kurt Cobain: About a Son, documentary on Nirvana singer due to be released later this year. Also on soundtrack: Ben Gibbard singing Beat Happening’s “Indian Summer.” [Billboard]

Cohen, Glass Collabo: Philip Glass sets 22 Leonard Cohen poems to music for three-night performance in Toronto. Chabon Again With Harper: Michael Chabon signs two-book deal with HarperCollins’ Jonathan Burnham, with Jennifer Barth editing. Mary Evans is Chabon’s agent. Deal covers novel set in contemporary Bay Area and book of nonfiction about “being a man in all its complexity — a son, a father, a husband.” Somewhere, Ayelet Waldman haters sharpen their knives.
