Nineties indie gods Superchunk officially kicked off the pool-party season yesterday with a tight, familiar set of old favorites (unavoidably, as they haven't released a new album since 2001) performed under a flawless blue sky, as a big, enthusiastic crowd kicked back in the sun and took advantage of the on-site slip 'n slide. Vulture was on hand to survey the crowd, talk with singer Mac McCaughan backstage, and catch one of New York's newest summer institutions in all its glory — beach balls, bikinis, and massive walls of feedback included.
