An installation shot of Christoph Broich's Voluptuous Panic (2007). Image courtesy of the artist and Envoy, New York.

Latex sculptor Christoph Broich's installation Voluptuous Panic, on view as of today at the Lower East Side's Envoy Gallery, plays like an abstract bacchanalian cavalry. Inspired by Weimar-era drunken revelry, the German-born artist hangs his delicate, hulking celebrants over rectangular slabs (meant to evoke a bar) and each other in a scene that is eerily evocative of any number of hipster haunts when the lights go up at the end of the night. —Rachel Wolff
