Remy Ma's Khrist Complex

The cover of Bronx rapper Remy Ma’s new mix tape, Shesus Khrist, finds the Terror Squad MC — where else? — on the cross, a loincloth and her hair keeping the scene decent. It’s silly enough when megastars like Kanye and Nas pull tricks like this, but for Remy — a sales-deficient MC in the bankrupt hypersexual Foxy Brown–Lil’ Kim mold, most noted for an altogether meh verse on the “Lean Back” remix — Christ allusions are downright mock-worthy.
But we let it slide. Until this weekend, that is, when the 26-year-old Ma was apprehended after allegedly shooting 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph, an acquaintance, outside the meatpacking district’s Pizza Bar over a missing $2,000. Come on, Remy: What would Shesus do? —Amos Barshad
