Genius Animated Time-Waster of the Day: Makibishi

A scene from MakibishiCourtesy of Makibishi.co.jp

The Japanese animation studio Makibishi does innovative work for anime, advertisements, and films. But we think it's their promotional online cartoon game that's the real work of art. As vivid and fantastical as a Gorillaz video, Makibishi is interactive, bewildering, and frequently laugh-out-loud funny. You're Asashin the assassin, searching for five ninjas who are hiding in a robot- and T. Rex–infested future world. The game can be frustrating for those, like us, who don't care about video games and just want to look at gorgeous animation of monkeys fighting wild boars; that's why we recommend this walk-through, which tells you everything you need to know to advance.
