Perhaps riding on the Whitney’s psychedelic coat tails, the Lower East Side’s Envoy Gallery's August exhibition is now showcasing works by Alain Dister — a French photographer who spent the better part of the sixties taking in Stateside sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Dister’s Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic (above) recalls a quainter time when visits to the free clinic were carefree and also, apparently, aesthetically pleasing. Alain Dister’s aptly titled “Elegy for the Summer of Love” is up through September 1. —Rachel Wolff
