2007 has so far been another bad year for the recording industry, with sales down about 20 percent from last year. But with major releases on the way from marquee names like 50 Cent, Kanye West, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Rascal Flatts, and Britney Spears, though, the music business is hoping that the fall season will deliver some much-needed financial relief. But wait a minute — not so fast! New iPods!

At an Apple event in San Francisco this afternoon, Steve Jobs is expected to announce updates for the company's entire fleet of personal MP3 players. Rumors on the blogosphere indicate the new iPods will feature touch screens and wireless capabilities — basically iPhones that can't call anyone. We certainly hope the record labels didn't expect to sell any of those new albums on CD. Ha!
