A French Painter Takes on Captain America

Paris-based artist Vuk Vidor has his way with graphic American heroes in his dark but visually rich showing at Chelsea’s Cueto Project, up at the gallery through October 6. Vidor’s take on this summer's well-publicized passing of Captain America adds an ominous and grisly touch to the superhero’s sniper-fire death in front of a federal courthouse. And the odd visual placement of the map of America reminds us not to mess with Texas. —Rachel Wolff
