On a cobwebbed stage decorated with dream catchers, battered children's toys, a banana-seat bicycle, and a massive fisherman's net, twee-pop sister duo CocoRosie performed at the Deitch Projects last night to an invitation-only crowd (that included filmmaker Jim Jarmusch). As part of Bianca (a.k.a. Coco) Casady's multimedia art exhibit, the girls performed songs from their latest album, The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn, a quirky amalgamation of freak folk, hip-hop and opera.

Sierra (a.k.a. Rosie), dressed as an Edwardian go-go dancer, and Bianca, sporting dread extensions, brought their now-standard psychodrama, duetting and soloing, flanked by local slide-guitarist Zeke Healey and a backup trio which included Bronx MC Nomi (who guests on Deborah Harry's new album). "Can you feel the rainbow spirit?" asked Sierra, midway through, a reference to the latest album's "Rainbow Warriors," which is itself a reference to the Native American prophecy that the rainbow warriors would come to lead mankind to a new world of justice, peace, and freedom. (The hometown crowd, apparently, was feeling it.) Effusive and standing among friends at the end of the set, Bianca exclaimed, "This show is set in the future!"
