With the October 31 deadline looming, there's still a chance that a writers strike can be averted — if only everyone can find a place to sit down. Negotiations between the Writers Guild and Hollywood producers nearly hit the skids yesterday after WGA's David Young failed to provide enough chairs for AMPTP president Nick Counter's committee, reports Deadline Hollywood Daily. Young claims that Counter gave him a specific headcount, but Counter says that Young knew he was bringing his entire entourage. The impasse was broken only when Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry heroically went looking for additional seating in other conference rooms. Vulture salutes Cherry's courage, and we're confident that, with such competent and reasonable leadership on both sides, the WGA and AMPTP will come to an agreement no time.
