ON megumi Akiyoshi’s FLOWER gallery brings to mind Japanese mastermind Takashi Murakami, and this summer’s Whitney blowout, “Summer of Love.” With this hand-painted room, installed on the second floor of Japan Society as part of its highly anticipated, recently opened “Making a Home: Japanese Contemporary Artists in New York,” Akiyoshi, who often dons similarly patterned getups for her performance pieces, appeals to aging hippies, psychedelic aesthetes, and pothead college students the city over. —Rachel Wolff
