On September 23, 2006, Chinese performance artist He Yunchang scooped up a rock in the British town of Boulmer and walked (and walked, and walked…) counterclockwise around the country until he could return said rock to the very same spot — more than six months and innumerable blisters later. The above painting, The Rock Touring Around Great Britain, is one in a series based on his odyssey. Yunchang’s solo exhibition, his first in the U.S., is up at Chelsea’s Chambers gallery through December 22. —Rachel Wolff
