Deborah — oh, fuck it — Debbie Harry kicked off the tour for her new album, Necessary Evil, at Irving Plaza last night to a crowd that obviously worshipped the icon, rather than just the singer from Blondie. Of course, good as her fifth solo disc is (and it is pretty good), the icon sounded best singing … Blondie songs. Her soaring dance-chart hit “Two Times Blue” was no match for how Harry wound up the set, onstage with an acoustic guitarist. “This is the part of the show that is, well, a little bit strange for me,” she cooed, going into a stripped-down version of the early-eighties hit “Tide Is High.” And then, of course, came “Heart of Glass” — in a pretty, campfire-style rendition. The crowd took their cue, providing the song’s trademark ew ew ooohs at the end. To us, at least, it didn’t seem strange at all. —Elizabeth Cline
