Lupe Fiasco Gets Progressively Worse

Photo: Gene Ambo / Retna

1. Lupe Fiasco, "Hello Goodbye (Live in Las Vegas)"
Maybe Lupe Fiasco is getting carried away with the whole "concept album" thing — this symphonic prog-rock number that he debuted at the Vegoose festival comes awfuly close to sounding like Rush! [Nah Right]

2. Hello, Blue Roses "Shadow Falls"
Absurdly prolific songwriter Dan Bejar somehow found enough time off from Destroyer, the New Pornographers, and Swan Lake to start a fourth band with singer Sydney Vermont. This gorgeous, minimal ballad is the first song to leak from their first record. [Prefix]

3. UGK feat. Rick Ross, "Cocaine"
UGK and Rick Ross provide a helpful history lesson on the topic of cocaine — hey, did you know they used to put the stuff in Coca-Cola? — over a slick, mellow track with a slow beat and breezy Latin guitars. [Moistworks]

4. Ghostface Killah, Excerpt from The World According to Pretty Toney
Listening to this clip from the audio companion to his forthcoming book, we can't help but wonder whether Ghostface is a neat freak with OCD ("Scrub your tongues!"), or if the guy just knows some seriously filthy and poorly dressed people. [Nah Right]

5. The Teenagers, "Starlett Johansson"
This ultratwee new-wave tribute to Scarlett Johansson seems innocent at first, but upon closer inspection, the lyrics seem an awful lot like the ramblings of a creepy stalker. [Hits in the Car]
