Sérgio and Odair Assad multiply two guitars by 40 years.

The Brazilian guitar duo Sérgio and Odair Assad have been collaborating for over 40 years, and this recent album is a blissful testament to the richness of their pairing. In a set that ranges from yearning works by fellow countryman Antonio Carlos Jobin to more jagged-edged pieces by Claude Debussy, the brothers perform a brilliant act of creative give-and-take. Most appealing is their subdued and lyrical “Rhapsody in Blue” — a reminder of what can be accomplished when a guitar is in the right hands.
