Videos give the alphabet the silent-clown treatment.

"A" is for actress in this exquisitely quirky, sweetly low-fi educational series by East Village performer and filmmaker Shannon Plumb. With only a wig, a few props, and basic sound effects, Plumb transforms into a mustachioed cowboy or the embodiment of the word "emotion," all to teach tykes each letter of the alphabet. These 26 short sketches have been on video for a while, but the new DVD version has special features sure to have a new crop of kids loving their ABCs.
