Artist Bharti Kher’s Sculpture Has Junk in the Trunk

  • 12/6/07 at 3:02 PM

Bharti Kher’s The Skin Speaks a Language Not Its Own (2006)Courtesy of Jack Shainman Gallery, New York

Bharti Kher’s bindi-on-fiberglass elephant looks kind of dead, but we like to imagine he's just taking a break. Kher’s astonishing sculptures (textured, life-size, surrealist works including an enormous whale heart given a similar bindi-on-fiberglass treatment) are up at Chelsea’s Jack Shainman Gallery through December 22. —Rachel Wolff
