‘Golden Opportunities Mixtape’ is gloomy, great—and free.

Texas band Okkervil River already put out a pretty great album in the past year with The Stage Names (our print brothers gave it some Lowbrow, Brilliant “Approval Matrix” love). But they weren't done. Now free on the band’s site: Golden Opportunities Mixtape, a collection of covers and one original track, all recorded at various radio stations, gigs, and “empty hotel stairwells.” We especially love the translated take on Serge Gainsbourg's “I Just Came Here to Say That I’m Going Away” for its incomprehensible (to us) French D.J.’s dapper-sounding intro.
