The nominees for the Directors Guild of America award for film direction were announced earlier today. They are as follows:
Paul Thomas Anderson, There Will Be Blood
Joel and Ethan Coen, No Country for Old Men
Tony Gilroy, Michael Clayton
Sean Penn, Into the Wild
Julian Schnabel, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
At least four and maybe all five of these directors should make up the Oscar slate. Who's the weak link? And does Joe Wright's omission mean that it might be all over for Atonement, the movie we (and many others) thought was guaranteed multiple statues on Oscar night?
