The mysterious Burial delivers a kinder, gentler dubstep.

  • 1/2/08 at 1:30 PM

In 2006, the anonymous young dude known as Burial brought deep, dark dubstep out of the underground using minimal techno as inspiration. With this recent album, one of the top discs of last year, he exhumes dubstep's U.K. roots, emphasizing warped, melancholy vocals. The music doesn't kick your ass so much as caress your cheek — or, put another way, it comforts more than it terrifies.
