Sundance is buzzing about Morgan Spurlock’s latest stunt-doc Where in the World Is Osama bin Laden?, in which the director attempts to find Dr. Evil all by himself. Audacious? Yes. But hardly original. For that, see this madcap globalization satire based on Scott Anderson’s 2001 Esquire article “What I Did on My Summer Vacation,” in which a team of men (played by Richard Gere, Terrence Howard, and others) set out to catch Radovan Karadžić, the former Serb politician wanted for war crimes — and, yes, fail to find him. Filmmaker Richard Shepard had the good sense to tone down reality a bit; credits explain how the true story was even more preposterous.
