John Frankenheimer: Film Paranoia at Its Finest, Wackiest

  • 1/23/08 at 2:30 PM

John Frankenheimer was a trendsetting architect of the paranoid style in American cinema, and the films in this collection — Young Savages, The Train, Ronin, and, most of all, The Manchurian Candidate — are the kind of nutty fantasies that inspired the likes of Die Hard and 24, not to mention legions of conspiracy theorists, with corrupt military brass, brainwashing Communists, ball-busting black-widow mothers, bloodthirsty gang members, and wack-job assassins.
