Exclusive Comics Excerpt: ‘The Other Side of the Mirror’

Every morning, the woman receives a single rose in her mailbox. Every afternoon, she dreams about the boy who leaves them there. And 50 years later, a family tells her story. Offering the same quirky combination of dreamy romance and slapstick comedy that defines Jo Chen's shoujo manga work, Chen's short story "99 Roses" is included in volume one of her new romance series, The Other Side of the Mirror. Today on the Comics Page, we're proud to present the complete story "99 Roses."

The Other Side of the Mirror, volume one, is out now from Tokyopop.

"99 Roses," by Jo Chen

Important reading note: Like most manga in translation, "99 Roses" is read from right to left, not left to right. Start from the top right of the page and work your way to the left and downward. Imagine you are reading a typical English-language comic book in the mirror. The graphic to the left may help you make the transition.
