Nair Flies the Friendly Skies: Following the postponement of her globe-trotting Johnny Depp epic Shantaram, the suddenly available Mira Nair signs on to the Hilary Swank–starring Amelia Earhart biopic Amelia. Pic will reportedly focus on Earhart's early career and triumphant flight across the Atlantic Ocean, probably to avoid the most unsatisfying ending since No Country for Old Men. [Variety]
Groff, Stuhlbarg, Easton Put It in Park: The Public Theater unveils the goods on their summer Shakespeare in the Park productions, with Oskar Eustis directing The Pillowman’s Michael Stuhlbarg in the title role of Hamlet alongside Richard Easton as well as a fully staged version of last summer’s concert reading of Hair starring Jonathan Groff. No, we still don’t know if he’s naked, Spring Awakening fans! [Playbill]
Beyoncé Braver Than We Thought: Give Beyoncé credit: It can’t be easy to swallow hard and agree to duet with one of the previous century’s most electrifying performers, but that’s what she did, as she is now set to perform with Tina Turner at the Grammy Awards this weekend. Admittedly there are a lot of cons, but that might be worth seeing. [Billboard]
Arteta to Revolt Cera: The Michael Cera–starring feature adaptation of C.D. Payne’s cult hit novel Youth in Revolt, about a sex-obsessed teen in a world of moronic adults, scores a director in the form of Miguel Arteta, which suddenly makes the project seem a whole lot less like the next Superbad. Douglas to Doubt: Late eighties icons don’t die, they just grudgingly segue into villainous and supporting roles, as evidenced by two Michael Douglas items in as many days. Today, Douglas joins the cast of Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, a Peter Hyams remake of a Fritz Lang film (and we understand if you stopped reading right there), as a corrupt district attorney who frames a journalist played by Jesse Metcalfe. Amber Tamblyn also stars. [HR]
Kurkova Covers Joe: Karolina Kurkova joins the now hilariously crowded cast of G.I. Joe as Cover Girl, a former supermodel who got bored with the fashion world and joined the army to drive a tank. The role is closely modeled on Kurkova’s own life story, except for the part about quitting modeling and driving a tank. [IESB]
