‘RE/Search’: Half Magazine, Half Book and Fully Bizarre
In 1980, V. Vale — the San Francisco punk stalwart who created of the alt paper Search & Destroy — launched RE/Search, a series of so-called “maga-books” (hardcover magazines, really) dedicated to oddball activities and themes like tattoos and exotic lounge music. This recently rereleased edition from 1982 includes strange interviews with William S. Burroughs, the sound artist Brion Gysin, and the members of Throbbing Gristle — plus, Vale’s views on colonizing outer space.
