In ‘Tin Man,’ Zooey Deschanel Is the New Judy Garland
This hugely popular (for the Sci Fi Channel) mini-series reimagined The Wizard of Oz with an O.Z. (the “Outer Zone”) and Dorothy in the form of a tomboy waitress named DG. Nobody needed a new Oz, but there’s more to this dark three-parter than nifty acronyms—the twists are smart, and even better, there are pitch-perfect crazy performances by indie darlings Zooey Deschanel, as DG, and Alan Cumming, as a Straw Man 2.0 whose brain was vacuumed out of his zippered head.
