On last night's American Idol, the seven remaining finalists performed selections from the Mariah Carey songbook. As all of Mariah's songs were written specifically with her glass-shattering dozen-octave range in mind (and not, say, the limited ranges of seven passably decent amateurs), the episode contained very few high notes.
