Top Eight Finalists Perform

Last night on American Idol, the eight surviving finalists sang "inspirational music," a genre broad enough to include songs such as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "You've Got a Friend," and one by nineties Canadian grunge band Our Lady Peace, who will likely be inspired by the first royalty check they've received in nine years. The theme was selected in honor of tonight's Idol Gives Back charity event, which will benefit impoverished children in Africa and the United States, as well as victims of Kristy Lee Cook's performances.
